Guide Before Your Session

  • Do coordinate the colors the family is wearing. It is important that the colors coordinate so it is more pleasing to the eye.
  • Don’t wear big logos or branded clothing. They are distracting and take focus away from what is really important, your family.
  • Do wear something comfortable and that you feel good in. If you feel good in it you will look good in it. And if you are uncomfortable with your outfit it will be visible in the photos.
  • Don’t match everyone. In the 80’s the white shirt and jeans was a total look for family photos. Now, I recommend that you coordinate the outfits not match them identical. Think about it like you are all going the the same party. If the look will be formal then everyone should be in formal clothes. If you are going for a more relaxed look everyone should look coordinate that feeling.
  • Do think about how accesible the location you are interested in using. Will you have grandparents that need easy access and little walking? How long will you have to walk to get to the spot? How is parking? All those small details can make or break the location.couple photos during family session

Essential Guide For During Your Family Session

You have done all the planning and consulting with your family photographer (me!). Now you are ready for the day of your session. Trust me, all the planning will make your session less stressful.  And I totally know how stressful it can be to do family photos. You want everyone to behave and look good. I get it. I have stressed about my own family photos. But we got this. I believe we can do this.guide for perfect family photos

Plan your session for a time that works for everyone. I always recommend we do the session around sunset. But you might have some littles and an early morning session might be best. Timing can be everything.  And speaking of littles; make sure you bring some snacks (I mean bribes). They can work wonders with little and not so little kids, and even grownups. Just make sure that the snack is not messy.

One big thing I want to point out and I want you to really listen to me on this one. Do not stress if your kids act up! DO NOT STRESS!!!  First of all, my kids act up. I have seen it all as a mom of three boys. I also expect kids to be kids. And sometimes a little play time will let them relax and then they will have fun taking photos. I promise, if you are worried about them acting out, don’t! We will end up having fun and it will be great!!!

So now that you have the essential guide to great family photos you can click here and book your session! I can’t wait to get planning!!!
