What Makes a Senior Photo Good? Houston,TX

As I think about what makes a senior photo good there are a few answers I can think of. Honestly a good senior photo has a combination of things. It is not just one thing.

The first thing you want to look at is finding a photographer that you like their style. Take time and look around at all the different photographers in your area. Everyone has a different way to capturing their clients and it’s important that you like what they do. Don’t think that your photos will look different than the work they show on their social media or their website. If you are expecting something different keep looking until you find your match.

The photographer should know when to take the photos and give you suggestion on locations. You might have an idea of where and the photographer will guide you from there. They should be guiding you to help you achieve the photos you want. Each location is unique and the light might will be different depending on where the sun is. It is the photographers job to know or find out what that location will be like.

Once you have the photographer picked, booked, and your location finalized you need to look at what to wear. I firmly believe that you should wear clothes that look like you. I don’t think that your senior session is for you to dress up like someone you and your family won’t recognize. You want to look back at these photos and remember who you were at that special time in your life. You don’t want to look back and think, “why was I wearing that? It looks like someone else!”

What makes senior photos unique?

The short answer is YOU! Don’t be afraid to let you shine. You are 100% you then your photos will not be like anyone else’s. So when you ask, “What makes a senior photo good?” the main thing is you. Remember that this is a time for you to capture who you turned out to be after high school.

You might reinvent yourself in college. And that okay. But right now, today, you are this person. And everyone will love to see your photos if it’s YOU looking back at them. As a photographer it makes me so happy to see my seniors come in a bit shy and then end up showing me how amazing they are. I am always amazed but how wonderful and UNIQUE everyone is. And even if they use the same location as someone else, the pictures always look a little different.
