As my kids get older I see a lot of families with older kids. Some of them I have been photographing since their kids were very young. It’s one of the things I love about my job. Family sessions with older kids are so important. Sometimes we focus on photos when the kids are little. Then we get busy as the kids have more activities and the pictures get “forgotten”. Let me tell you something, take the pictures. Make them get in that photo. Capture those memories!
A good friend that once told me, “if you don’t schedule a family session the next time you will take a family portrait will be at their wedding'” She is so right and I think of it often. I am guilty of not having enough photographs with me in them. I want my hair to look cute, I want to be wearing makeup. Those are excuses and I should not pay attention to them. You shouldn’t listen to your excuses either! Get in that photo!
It’s hard to get teenagers to carve out some of their time and dedicate it to taking family photos but it’s so worth it. I am featuring a family today that chose a time when both kids would be home (one is at college) and they decided to take their pictures in their backyard. The images we got are priceless and I could not be happier with how they turned out.
