Are you wondering what do you wear to a cap and gown photo? I am here to tell you that you can wear many different things and they all can look super cool.
Most people (parents) think that you should wear something formal under your cap and gown for photos. That is traditional and can look very nice. You wear something formal for graduation so why not wear it to your photos? You totally can. And I do love a beautiful formal outfit to make the photo feel super special.
As a girl you might want to wear something fun under your cap and gown. A cute pair of shorts, a fun top, and some sandals or sneakers are always cute. You will look like you are ready for the best summer before going to college. Carefree and ready to leave high school behind.
For the guys (and the girls) a great choice is some school gear. By school gear I mean some of your FUTURE college gear under your gown. Then you can open your gown and show where you will be attending in the fall. You can find cool college wear in a lot of websites or at your school’s student store.
There is one major detail that you must not forget. Don’t forget the gown, cords, sashes, etc. All of these need to look like you were ready for photos. You should press them or steam them. DO NOT take a hot iron to them. You will be left with a burnt gown. YouTube has some great tutorials on how to press your graduation items. When answering, what do you wear to a cap and gown photo, wrinkles are not the correct answer.
Formal or casual?
No matter what you decide, whether it’s formal or casual by number one advise is be yourself. Don’t dress like someone you won’t recognize when you look at your pictures. The question, what do you wear to a cap and gown photo should not be answered with, “a Halloween costume.” LOL If you are comfortable with your clothes and how you look, your pictures will be even better. If what you picked is something you hate, you won’t even be excited to take the photos.
